What do potica, logistics and Epilog have in common?

27. 03. 2024

The 2024 Logistics Congress took place from 27 to 29 March in Portorož, Slovenia. As sponsors of the recess, Epilog staff presented our company to the Congress’s 600 participants.

Since Easter was just around the corner, we explored the common features of baking potica (a traditional Slovenian rolled pastry), the logistics industry and Epilog, a company providing advanced logistics solutions. At first glance, it may seem like an unusual combination, but we found that there are in fact many connections between them.

Even though, in one of his hit songs, Slovenian pop singer Jan Plestenjak tells us that Good Things Come in Threes, and even though Epilog’s logo includes three dots, we doubled this magic number and summarised the parallels in six key features.

  1. Best quality ingredients are a must for a great product.
Just as a pastry chef must choose the right flour and the most delicious walnuts for baking potica, logistics specialists need to find the right solutions and reliable partners for the smooth operation of the entire process. When designing IT solutions to support logistics, Epilog selects the finest 'ingredients' – state-of-the-art procedures and technologies.

  2. Care in the production process.
Experience counts, so when baking potica we are happy and grateful to listen to the advice of our grandmothers. They say that it matters how you knead the dough and make the filling, and that it is important to heat the oven to the right temperature. Epilog listens to the needs and wishes of our customers with just the same attentiveness and care.

  3. Choosing the baking mould.
Experienced pastry chefs know that selecting the right baking mould for baking potica is essential. When baking this Slovenian delicacy, a round baking mould is recommended. While it is true that we don’t deal with baking moulds in logistics and at Epilog, we do believe that it is crucial for the solutions to be fully integrated into your system, which, half-jokingly, could also be called your ‘baking mould’.

  4. Ensure that the dough is rising correctly.
At Epilog, we monitor performance 24 hours a day, every day of the year, to ensure that the operation of your logistics is optimal and that all of the logistics processes are running like a well-oiled machine. However, we don’t think that the mother-in-law’s supervision of potica baking is something we should discuss here…

  5. The result of Slovenian knowledge.
The name ‘Slovenska potica’ has been registered as a Traditional Speciality Guaranteed (TSG) since 2021. There are about a hundred recipes for potica, with different types of dough and fillings. The protected Slovenska potica can be prepared with five different traditional fillings: walnut, walnut and raisin, raisin, tarragon, or tarragon with cottage cheese. Epilog’s logistics IT solutions are also a result of domestic, Slovenian knowledge and experience, and above all – just like potica – they contain a lot of love for the product.

  6. Delivery to the right place at the right time.
Your customers basically only have one thing on their wish list: for their order to arrive at its destination on time. This can only be achieved with the help of efficient logistics processes. At Epilog, we ensure that the goods are always delivered to the right place at the right time. Just as potica is placed on the festive table as its centrepiece.

We managed to convince the Congress participants that baking potica and the choice of logistics solutions have a lot in common. At the end, we also put words into action and gifted the participants with Epilog’s own delicious lePotica (in Slovenian, ‘lepotica’ means ‘a beauty’), with which they could also take pictures in the lobby.
